Poster Printing UK: The Complete Guide to Sizes, Finishes and Outdoor PVC
Poster Printing That Commands Attention
A great poster doesn't just inform — it stops people in their tracks. Whether it's an A3 event poster in a shop window, an A1 exhibition display, or a waterproof A2 PVC poster mounted outdoors, poster printing gives your message the scale and impact it deserves.
At Digraphics, we offer a complete range of poster sizes from A4 right up to A0, on premium paper stocks and durable outdoor PVC — all with free UK delivery.
Which Poster Size Do You Need?
Choosing the right size is the first decision. Here's a practical guide:
- A4 (210×297mm): Notice boards, point-of-sale, menus, and desktop displays. From £9 each.
- A3 (297×420mm): Shop windows, event promotion, restaurant walls, and gym displays. From £16 each.
- A2 (420×594mm): High-visibility indoor displays and retail environments. From £18 each.
- A1 (594×841mm): Exhibition stands, large retail displays, and venue signage. From £25 each.
- A0 (841×1189mm): Maximum impact for trade shows, events, and large-format advertising. From £59 each (PVC).
Gloss vs Matt: Which Finish Is Right for Your Poster?
- Gloss: Vivid, high-contrast colours. Perfect for photography, events, and retail promotions. Catches the eye under artificial lighting.
- Matt: Sophisticated, non-reflective finish. Easier to read in bright environments. Preferred for text-heavy designs and gallery-style displays.

Indoor vs Outdoor Poster Printing
Standard paper posters are designed for indoor use. If you need something that can withstand British weather — rain, wind, UV — you need our waterproof PVC poster range.
Our PVC posters are printed on 440gsm PVC material and are completely waterproof and UV-resistant. They're available in A2, A1, and A0 sizes and are ideal for:
- Outdoor event signage and festivals
- Construction site hoardings and site notices
- Outdoor retail and market stall displays
- Sports clubs, schools, and community noticeboards
- Window displays (PVC is also suitable indoors)
Poster Design Tips for Maximum Impact
- One message per poster. Trying to say too much dilutes impact. Choose the single most important thing you want your audience to know.
- Hierarchy matters. The most important information should be the largest. Work down in size from headline to supporting details to contact info.
- Use contrast. Dark text on light backgrounds (or vice versa). Never use light text on a pale background at poster scale.
- Leave margin space. Content too close to the edge looks amateurish and risks being trimmed. Leave at least 10mm inside the bleed line.
- High resolution images only. At A1 and A0 scale, a low-resolution image will look pixelated and unprofessional. Minimum 150dpi at actual print size.
Frequently Asked Questions
What resolution do I need for poster printing?
For standard paper posters, we recommend 300dpi at actual print size for A4 and A3. For larger sizes (A2 and above), 150dpi is acceptable as viewing distance increases. For PVC outdoor posters, 100–150dpi is sufficient.
Can I order just one poster?
Yes — all our poster products are available as single copies. Pricing scales down per unit as quantities increase.
What file format should I use?
PDF is our preferred format. Set your document to CMYK colour mode with 3mm bleed and all fonts embedded or converted to outlines.
Are your PVC posters suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. Our 440gsm PVC posters are fully waterproof and UV-resistant, making them suitable for long-term outdoor display in UK weather conditions.
